A Interiors, founded by Alanoud Khalid Mishaal, is a diverse design company that focuses on creating unique interior spaces, custom-made furniture, and art collections. They are located in the capital city of Saudi Arabia and offer personalised design solutions that cater to a broad range of preferences and styles.

Alanoud received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design from Prince Sultan University in 2010 and a Master of Business Administration degree from Al Faisal University in 2013. After working as a freelancer for three years and honing her skills, she founded A Interiors. Her goal was not only to design homes but also to create functional, practical, and stylish spaces that define a lifestyle.

Alanoud’s contagious enthusiasm, attention to detail, and hands-on approach to styling contributed to the success of her designs and her studio. She has an amazing ability to understand her client’s design preferences and create a unique style for each project. By identifying and customising bespoke artwork to suit each client’s unique characteristics, she enhances and inspires each space. The essence, desire, and driving force behind each commission and her ability to understand, have enabled A Interiors to earn long-term loyalty from its clients.

“Traditional with a twist” is the manifestation of A Interior’s latest project, the Ammariyah Farm Villa in Saudi Arabia. Award-winning designer Anoud bint Khalid cleverly balances and blends contemporary minimalism with the warmth of traditional textiles to create an elegant, airy, and fresh farmhouse on the edge of the Riyadh desert that is both sophisticated and inviting. The play of opposites, traditional with a twist, is evident in every element of the design, creating a cohesive and harmonious space that is both modern and timeless.

From the moment you step foot into the breathtaking farmhouse, you are greeted by grandeur. The sheer size of the light and airy interior is exaggerated by the use of white on the walls and floors, as the room extends both outwards and upwards. This discretion allows each expertly chosen piece to shine in its own way. Reflecting the rich sands of the Sahara Desert, the crimson woven into the rug draws the eye and immerses one in its handcrafted intricacies. Woven palm baskets and colorful handicrafts sourced from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the African continent carefully populate the shelves and walls, paying homage to the owners’ Arabic roots.

The oversized white sofas not only look stylish but also provide a calming and tranquil atmosphere, allowing the eyes to rest as they scan the room. To give the farmhouse a more grounded feel, natural materials such as deep woods, lush greens, and vintage-aged furniture and doors are incorporated, which act as anchors that prevent the design from being too overpowering.

The living and dining areas are softly illuminated by hanging lanterns and basket lighting, which reinforces the sense of traditionalism while still keeping a contemporary feel. The design cleverly combines crisp, clean white lines with dark, rounded circles to create a complementary contrast. This balance is also reflected in the guest bathrooms, where an exposed natural stone wall coexists harmoniously with a modern double sink.
The farmhouse features elaborately carved wooden screens known as “mashrabiyas” which dominate the area, extending through the space from windows to hangings. These screens filter the sunlight and transform it into captivating rays and dancing patterns of shadows on the walls, imparting an imposing yet intricately detailed appearance. Additionally, Sadu textiles are used to adorn cushions and dining chairs, paying tribute to the farmhouse’s Saudi heritage.

The interior designer Alanoud has skillfully combined modern and traditional elements and has playfully incorporated outdoor elements into the interior design. Palm trees, for instance, are strategically placed next to the living space that not only harmoniously blends the outdoors with the interior but also cleverly throws sun-dappled shade in a close-by bathroom. Anoud drew inspiration from the natural surroundings of the house, which is situated amidst mountains, palm trees, and farms. To establish a harmonious relationship between the house and its environment, Anoud was attentive to preserving the natural elements and integrating them into the design.

Alanoud’s distinctive style of blending opposites to create something new and enduring is evident throughout the design of the Ammariyah Farmhouse. It is a space that is both sophisticated and welcoming, modern and timeless, and a true testament to the designer’s skill and creativity. She continually strives to reimagine traditional concepts and transform them into something special and innovative, all while ensuring it withstands the passage of time.
